Reconfigurable sequential flash LiDAR

Combining MEMS mirrors with a CSPAD array to allow for dynamic scene reconfiguration based on activity - requires the development of beyond state of the art semiconductor components and low-latency signal processing capabilities directly in the sensor. This is the NeurOSmart approach.

AI-driven preprocessing pipeline

The system features a FPGA-based digital, neuromorphic-accelerated preprocessing pipeline using an application-specific RISC-V cluster approach. This allows for the utilization of AI acceleration already during raw-data processing. The result - significant benefits in memory requirements and speed with respect to classical histogram processing. Additionally, a pipeline to synthetically generate training data has been developed and can be used to accelerate the transition to new scenarios and different sensors.

Dedicated mixed-signal IMC accelerator

NeurOSmart utilizes a mixed-signal in-memory computing (IMC) accelerator, that allows for utmost energy efficiency of especially taxing inference operations during the pixel-wise object segmentation and classification. The accelerator core is made of HfO-based ferroelectric field effect transistor (FeFET) crossbars, that can store information and perform compute operations at the same time, avoiding the communication of the information between memory and compute units, which is behind a significant portion of the energy consumed in today's systems.
